After the recent news of an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in Surrey, the WSPA is supporting its Member Societies, the RSPCA and CIWF (Compassion in World Farming) in their calls for the humane treatment of animals throughout the management of the outbreak.
This requires keeping the culling of animals to a minimum by carefully controlling the spread of the disease and avoiding unnecessary slaughter of healthy animals. Wherever infected animals need to be culled, this should be done using the most humane methods and techniques available in order to reduce stress and suffering.
