Approximately one million seals are deliberately killed each year, the majority commercially hunted for their pelts. The two most widely used slaughter methods – clubbing and shooting – frequently cause these intelligent mammals to suffer slow and agonising deaths.
WSPA believes that sealing is cruel and should be stopped. If you agree, now is your chance to make your voice heard.
In December 2007 the European Commission (EC) launched an online public consultation on the trade in seal products. The consultation aims to gather public opinion on the animal welfare aspects of killing seals.
This is an opportunity for real change. The results of the consultation could assist in the creation of vital new EC regulations banning trade in seal products within the European Union.
A ban on imports of seal products in the EU would remove a significant market for seal products and so help stop these bloody hunts worldwide.
Please fill in the public consultation form and pass it on to as many people as possible. The deadline for responses is 13 February 2008, so act now!
