Over 400 schools across the UK have contacted the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) to learn about our work with bears around the world through a new education pack just out.
Lesson plans for seven to 11-year-olds are now available from WSPA to support schools Key Stage 2 literacy curriculum.
Bear Necessities is a free resource for schools that can be used for lessons or in assemblies.
The materials all explore the, sometimes harmful, relationship which can exist between man and bear and examines the work which WSPA carries out across the world in an attempt to address these issues.
Teachers can apply for a bright and eye catching A2 classroom poster which will help to keep the topic fresh in their pupils’ minds. As well as the classroom poster, the first 1,000 teachers to reply will also receive a hard copy of WSPA’s Bears of the World fact pack.
The pack is an exciting and engaging resource which provides striking imagery of bears as well as information about the various species’ diets, habitats and behaviour.
For those teachers that aren't in the first 1,000 to reply, the bears of the world pack will also be available for download in PDF format alongside the other resource material from the WSPA schools web page.
Pupil worksheets to support the delivery of the lesson plans will be printed on the reverse of the poster for teachers to photocopy and distribute to their class.
Whilst Bear Necessities is initially intended simply to raise awareness of WSPA’s work in schools, the resource also provides lots of fun, exciting fundraising ideas which teachers can undertake at a class or whole school level.
