Rosie Marcel, actress and World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) supporter, stars in a new film about the charity’s bear sanctuary in Romania.
The actress, who plays registrar Jac Naylor in the popular BBC One drama series Holby City, highlights WSPA’s latest plans for the sanctuary – to build a third forest enclosure there to house Romania’s remaining captive bears.
Rosie visited the sanctuary to make the film after joining a group of WSPA fundraisers on a hike across the Carpathian Mountains, where the sanctuary lies.

Rosie said: “It was amazing to see the bears at the sanctuary after all our hard work trekking through the mountains. I was really keen to see how WSPA is helping Romania’s bears and highlight how people can help with the next phase of the charity’s vital work there.”
The film, which you can watch below, was made by WSPA supporter and professional wildlife film-maker Richard Hughes and shows the idyllic nature of daily life for some of the 45 bears now living at the sanctuary.
In the film Rosie also talks about the need for a third forest enclosure to be built at the sanctuary, that will become home for some 30 more bears, currently all suffering cruel captivity in illegal or substandard zoos around Romania.
“The World Society for the Protection of Animals urgently needs funds to transform a nine hectare forest area into a safe and secure sanctuary for these captive bears,” explains Rosie.
