Emmerdale stars’ night for the living dead

Mar 19, 2010

On Sunday April 25th 2010 Dominic Brunt and Mark Charnock will be hosting the third annual Leeds Zombie Film Festival to raise money for WSPA

On Sunday April 25th 2010 from noon till midnight Dominic Brunt and Mark Charnock will be hosting the third annual Zombie Film Festival at the Cottage Road Cinema in Headingley, near Leeds, in aid of WSPA.

WSPA supporter Dominic Brunt says: “The reason we support the World Society for the Protection of Animals is because we both love animals, specifically bears. A couple of years ago I visited the WSPA funded Romanian Bear Sanctuary, and witnessed the charity rescuing a bear from an illegal zoo.”

If you would like to see the bears in their natural habitat at the WSPA-built bear sanctuary in Romania then you can join the WSPA Bear Adventure, a fantastic opportunity to walk through the beautiful Carpathian Mountains and see rescued bears.

Dreaded details

Dare to enter the Cottage Road Cinema one of the oldest cinemas in the country, which has been showing films since 1912 and purchase day tickets for the Zombie Film Festival for £15 (that’s just £2.50 per film) either before hand or on the day of the event (April 25th) at the cinema.

At the Zombie Film Festival, Dominic, who plays vet Paddy Kirk, and Mark, who plays Chef Marlon Dingle, in the ITV 1 soap Emmerdale will be giving a short introduction to each of the films and explain why it was chosen. The line up will include both old and new movies, giving fans of zombie culture a chance to see classics from the past, some of which are being played on the big screen for the first time as well as more recent contributions to the genre.

Entrants to the Zombie Film Festival must be over 18. The film line up includes: Day Of The Dead, Colin, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later and one more mystery film to keep you guessing…

Zombie fans help animals

Try your luck at a spooky raffle and win one of many harrowing prizes. The top prize is a Wii console and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles game to play on it, kindly donated to WSPA by Capcom.

All the profits from the festival and the raffle go directly to helping the animals. With the donations from our supporters, WSPA helps local communities in regions of the world where few, if any, measures exist to protect animals.

Mark Charnock says: ‘WSPA is a charity close to our hearts, so, for fun and to raise money for a good cause we combined our undying love of all things zombie and created a festival that anyone can attend.”

Dominic says:  “I am fascinated by zombies; they are generally incapable of communication and show no signs of personality or rationality, and look terrifying. But to me, zombie movies will always be something to enjoy. I will always marvel at good special effects and mock myself for jumping out of my skin.”

Mark adds: “Last year’s festival was a huge success and we would like to encourage zombie fans to come along for the whole event, staying from noon to midnight – and hopefully not leave too terrified to walk home in the dark!”
