DVD is music to Romanian bear’s ears

Internationally acclaimed concert violinist, Fiona Pears, has released an exclusive Bear Sanctuary DVD of never seen before footage to help raise funds for the WSPA-funded Romanian project – the largest sanctuary of its type in Europe.
Fiona visited the sanctuary, home to over 50 bears rescued from cages outside restaurants, on roadsides and poorly run private zoos.

Fiona says many of the bears living in the sanctuary were caught from the wild as cubs and have spent most of their lives kept in captivity for private or commercial use. Many were kept as tourist attractions where they are caged in cramped and unnatural surroundings, with terrible diets and little care.
“It is so hard to imagine people not treating these wonderful animals as they should be treated. Thankfully WSPA is there to take care of them and look after their welfare,” she says.
“The sanctuary transforms the lives of these bears, who have suffered so much abuse and neglect. It provides a safe and natural environment within spacious woodlands, where the rescued bears can swim, climb trees and play and most importantly re-learn their natural behaviour.”
“It is a truly inspiring place. I will never forget the time I spent with the bears. I played a Romanian folk dance to one of the bears, Max, who was blind and he sat there swaying backwards and forwards. It sounds silly but I will never forget that,” she says.
“If just a few people buy my DVD, it will change these bears’ lives forever,” says Fiona.
